This page describes how Airing handles personal data for useairing.com and the Airing mobile app.
1. What Information Do We Collect?
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
The personal information we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the products and features you use. The personal information we collect includes:
- Identifiers: Name, display name, username, and email address.
- Security: Passwords or other authentication credentials (managed securely via Clerk).
- Preferences: Contact and notification preferences.
- Payment Data: If you make purchases (such as Airing Premium), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and RevenueCat handle all payment data. We do not store or receive your payment card numbers.
- Mobile Device Access: We may request access or permission to your camera and photo library if you choose to upload profile pictures or cover banners. You can toggle these permissions in your device settings at any time.
- Mobile Device Data: We automatically collect device details (device ID, hardware model, operating system version, carrier, and IP address) to maintain app security, troubleshoot errors, and log product usage events.
- Push Notifications: We register push notification tokens (via Expo) to send you show reminders and account updates. You can opt out in settings.
- Location Data: We collect approximate location data (such as country or region) derived from your IP address to customize content and comply with licensing.
2. How Do We Process Your Information?
We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
- To deliver and facilitate delivery of services: We process watch history, check-ins, ratings, and watchlist updates to maintain your account logs across devices.
- To enable user-to-user communications: We process usernames, display names, profile pictures, and comment content so you can follow friends, see watchlist status feeds, and discuss episodes.
- To fulfill and manage orders: We process subscription status and receipt validation via RevenueCat to verify Premium account features.
- To respond to user inquiries: We process support email content and contact details to resolve issues or handle privacy requests.
- To send administrative information: We process email addresses to deliver password reset links (via Clerk), security alerts, or terms updates.
- To identify usage trends: We analyze product interaction data in PostHog to optimize UI layout and fix performance bottlenecks.
- To protect our Services: We monitor login histories and request rates to prevent database abuse, spam, and fraudulent logins.
3. What Legal Bases Do We Rely On?
If you are located in the EU or UK, we only process your personal information when we have a valid legal basis (known as a 'lawful basis') under the GDPR. We rely on the following bases:
- Consent: You have given us clear consent to process your personal data for a specific purpose (such as setting up a profile picture or enabling push notifications).
- Performance of a Contract: Processing is necessary to fulfill our service agreement with you (providing the core TV tracking utilities you signed up for).
- Legitimate Interests: Processing is necessary for our legitimate business interests, provided those interests do not override your fundamental rights (such as analyzing usage trends to improve features, or securing our database against spam).
- Legal Obligation: Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject.
- Vital Interests: Processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of you or another person.
7. Is Your Information Transferred Internationally?
Airing is operated by a developer based in Sweden (EEA), and our main servers are hosted in Frankfurt (Germany). However, some of our third-party infrastructure partners (such as Clerk and RevenueCat) process data in the United States.
To protect your data when it is transferred outside the EEA or UK, we ensure our partners sign standard Data Processing Addendums containing the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
8. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?
We retain your personal information for as long as you maintain an active account with us. If you delete your account, we will erase or anonymize your library history, comments, and profile details from our active database.
We may retain limited transaction logs, backup snapshots, or diagnostic security logs for a longer period if required to resolve billing disputes, comply with tax laws, or prevent recurring spam/abuse.
9. How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?
We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures to safeguard your personal data, including encrypted database transport, API token authentication, Vercel web firewalls, and HTTPS routing.
Please remember that no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. You should always use a strong, unique password for your account.
10. Do We Collect Information From Minors?
Airing does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. We collect your birthdate at signup solely to verify you meet this minimum age requirement. If we discover we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
11. What Are Your Privacy Rights?
In many regions (such as the EU, UK, and Canada), you have the right to access, inspect, update, export (portability), or request deletion of your personal data.
Airing makes these controls available to all users globally. You can manage your profile directly in the mobile app settings, export a JSON file of your entire library history, or contact us at privacy@useairing.com or through our contact page to request account deletion.
12. Controls for Do-Not-Track Features
Most web browsers and mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track ('DNT') setting or Global Privacy Control signal. Because there is no uniform industry standard for DNT signals, we do not currently respond to automated DNT browser signals.
13. Do United States Residents Have Specific Privacy Rights?
If you reside in California or other US states with active consumer privacy laws, you have specific rights regarding your personal information, including the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of data sales.
In the last 12 months, we have collected and disclosed the following categories of personal data to our service providers (Clerk, Neon, PostHog, RevenueCat):
- Identifiers: Name, username, email, and user ID.
- California Customer Records: Name, email, and birthdate.
- Protected Class Characteristics: Age (verified via birthdate).
- Commercial Information: Premium purchase history and subscriptions.
- Internet/Network Activity: In-app searches, button clicks, and event logs.
- Coarse Geolocation: Country/region derived from IP address.
- Sensory/Visual Data: Profile pictures or watchlist cover images you upload.
We do not sell your personal data or share it for targeted advertising. To exercise your rights, please contact us at privacy@useairing.com or submit a request via our contact page.
14. Do Other Regions Have Specific Privacy Rights?
If you are a resident of Australia or New Zealand, you have rights to access and correct your personal information under the Australian Privacy Act and New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. You can exercise these rights directly inside your account settings or by emailing us.
15. Do We Make Updates to This Notice?
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the 'Last updated' date at the top of the page. We will notify you of material changes by placing an announcement in the app or sending an email.

This Privacy Policy is provided for transparency and App Store / Play Store compliance. It is not legal advice. Have counsel review it before relying on it for regulated markets.
6. How Do We Handle Your Social Logins?
If you choose to register or log in using a social network account (like Apple or Google Sign-In via Clerk), we receive basic profile information (such as name, email address, profile picture, and account ID) from your social login provider. We use this data solely to create and manage your Airing account.
